Meet Scott, a young 9-year-old horse. He is very curious, people-oriented, and stands out with his long legs. Scott is in good physical condition, full of energy, and handles well with the refuge specialists.
Scott is affected by Hyperkalemic Periodic Paralysis (HYPP), a genetic muscle condition that can cause episodes of weakness or tremors. This condition is primarily managed through an adapted diet and a stable routine.
His diet must be low in potassium, avoiding feeds known for high potassium content such as alfalfa, molasses, certain supplements, etc. He also receives appropriate selenium and vitamin E supplementation to correct a deficiency, support recovery, and promote muscle development.

Scott was trained under saddle when he was younger. Due to his condition, he cannot be ridden intensively. However, gentle and regular exercise is recommended and beneficial for his overall well-being and HYPP management.
Scott deserves a lifelong home that will offer stability, appropriate outlets for his energy, and an environment attentive to his well-being.

We are pleased to introduce the beautiful Taylor. Taylor is full of energy, determination, and love. With humans, she shows remarkable gentleness. She enjoys human presence, deeply respects people, and is docile and calm on the ground. She may appear anxious at first contact but adapts quickly.
Taylor displays cribbing behavior, likely linked to long periods spent confined. She also lives with mild ataxia (Harper syndrome). Daily support with Previcox helps her, even though her condition does not cause her pain. She remains active, curious, and happy to participate when given attention and structure.
